armony was formed in December of 1990 under the direction of Rick Legg, then worship director at Richardson Church
of the Nazarene, in Richardson, Texas. Rick, a native of West Virginia, had sung in southern gospel quartets all of his life, so after his move to Texas,
one of his first official acts was to find other guys in the church interested in forming a male quartet. Andy Edwards (Harmony's first lead singer), also
worked at the church, and one day after Rick accidentally heard him singing over by the church copy machine, he discovered Andy had great talent. Dan Andrews (bass) had served as interim worship leader prior to Rick's arrival and was active in the church choir. One
night at a social gathering at Dan's house, the three began singing old gospel favorites, and soon discovered their mutual interest. But they needed a tenor
singer! It was shortly after that, that John Fulton came to the church. He had just gotten off the road
singing full time for The Trinity River Boys, a well-established Texas gospel music group, and was that year voted the number one tenor in the state. As
always, God supplied, and the tenor singer's position was filled. The group sang mostly at the church for the first few months. They were known
as "the quartet".
One day, a good Christian brother named Rocky Gribble, who had just partnered to take over the legendary Grapevine Opry, asked "the quartet" to come out and
sing. Knowing that they couldn't perform on stage as "the quartet", Rick hastily came up with the name "Harmony", and the rest of the
guys just said "OK, we're Harmony". The group has performed at the Opry for the last ten years, and proudly claims several Gospel Artists of the
Year awards. They are currently members of the Grapevine Opry Hall Of Fame.
Encouraged by their fans to record some of their best known songs, the group recorded their first project in 1993, entitled "Harmony". Five years
later they recorded "Not Givin' Up".
In addition to their performances at church and the Opry, the group began singing at other churches and area concerts. They have performed with such gospel
favorites as the Speer Family, James Blackwood, Bob Wills and the Inspirations, The Bishops, comedian Jerry Clower, and have provided back-up vocals for country singer
Lani Bartley. The group has traveled from Lakeland, Florida to Seattle, Washington, and many cities in between.
In the early part of 1998, Rick left the ministry and the guys moved to Prestonwood Baptist Church (Plano, Texas). In April of
1999, Andy felt the Lord calling him to be more involved in the music and youth department at church and felt the need to leave the
group. Being the first to leave, the guys weren't sure of what to do, but the Lord provided in a miraculous way and brought a wonderful young man to the group
by the name of Darren Miller.
With the addition of Darren, the guys felt that for the first time in 3 years it was time to get new promo pictures for the group. Well...before the ink was dry,
the Lord moved again and Rick felt the call to go back into the music ministry in Winterhaven, Florida, which left an opening in the baritone slot. Dan felt the
urge to move, as he says, "seeing that all the great bass singers are starting to pass away and I’m really not feeling all that great." So Dan moved
to the baritone position.
For a short time in 2000-2001, the group featured Steve Clowe, lead; legendary Texas bass singer, Bill Bryant, Brad Helmer, drums and Gene Clowe on piano.
In 2005, original and founding member John Fulton left the group to accept a call into the ministry. Dan took the reins as group owner and manager along with
members Tom Smith, Tenor; Keith Gilliam, lead; Duane Daniel, Bass and David Smith, Piano.
In May '07, members Tom Smith and David Smith left the group and legendary tenor Brian Rayburn of the Crusaders Quartet joined the group. The group has become increasingly
sought after quartet for church ministry and Christian concerts. The Lord is blessing and they are excited about what God has in store for their ministry in the future.
They are based out of Plano, TX and feel very strongly about local church ministry. They attend their local churches with their families as much as possible.
Harmony’s ministry has strengthened over the years, and what began as a group of guys singing in church and doing a few concerts, has evolved into a quartet with a desire to
share the message of Jesus, and to listen for the Lord’s direction in everything they do.
They hope you will invite them for a time of worship, and they look forward to meeting each and every one of you.
God Bless You!
